IMMIGRANT ADVISORY GROUP
Since 2007, the Immigrant Advisory Group (IAG) has operated as a cohesive body made up of key community stakeholders from the Hartford area for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas while fostering interagency communication and resource sharing. The IAG meets quarterly on the third Thursday of each month. A typical meeting includes time for networking, resource sharing, an agency highlight and a “Learning Topic” segment. Invited speakers represent city services, community based organizations, educators, immigrant groups, etc.

COMMISSION ON REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT AFFAIRS
The idea for the Commission on Refugee and Immigrant Affairs (CRIA) grew out of the Hartford Public Library’s Immigrant Advisory Group (IAG), which consists of service providers and other community stakeholders who provide services to and interact with immigrants in the Greater Hartford area.
The IAG identified three action priorities:
to legitimize and elevate in importance the issues of new arrivals,
to create a means for immigrant voices to be heard and understood, and
to provide a way for immigrants to become civically engaged in the community.
After extensive discussion, the IAG concluded that a City commission would provide the appropriate mechanism for achieving these priorities. A Task Force Resolution was submitted to the City Council in February 2013.
